Called to be a People of Hope
Review of existing Deanery and Parish Structures

As part of our Diocesan journey, we have travelled from the two year ‘Seeking The Face of Christ’ consultation to the ‘Called to be a People of Hope’ Diocesan Guidelines, published spring 2009.  The Guidelines are in three sections – “Church: A School of Prayer”, under the patronage of the Patron of our diocese, Our Lady, as Woman of Hope; Church as Communion, under the patronage of our cathedral’s co-patron St Peter, as Rock of Hope; and Church of Mission under the patronage of the cathedral’s other co-patron St Paul, Apostle of Hope.
Towards the implementation of the part of Church as Communion dealing with Collaborative Ministry, a committee was formed to review existing deanery and parish structures in the light of projected numbers of clergy and pastoral needs. In  the Spring of 2009 the committee launched a consultation exercise.
What changes would parishes like to see implemented in the diocese as regards adjustments to parish and deanery structures?  Which parishes did they feel would be most able to work together to further the mission of the church and ensure the necessary pastoral care for God’s people?. The Committee’s draft report was presented to priests on Oct 28th 2009 and will form the basis of structural changes in our parish system and how they will be implemented.  The documents, below, are part of the reporting process. Any member of the diocese is welcome to submit comments by e-mailing the Committee’s Chair, Canon Bernard Massey  bernardmassey@blueyonder.co.uk
